I watched the first Fushigi Yuugi OVA just for Tomo’s sake and saw why people didn’t like it.  Absolutely awful and I didn’t understand what the heck was going on.  How did Tasuki and Chichiri know what Tomo looked like since they’ve never seen his face before?!  Unless they’ve taken a gander when he was dead?  OK to be fair, they did meet him on two occasions, but he looked like a regular person and not a guy in an elaborate costume and outrageous makeup.  And why did Hikitsu and Tomite came back to life as kids?!  Nothing made sense in this.  We’ll forget that the OVA existed.  By the way, this is my opinion only and it's totally OK if people enjoyed watching this.

But there are a few interesting moments in the OVA.  Tomo worked under Tenkou, a god that Nakago and his lineage tribe used to worship.  Tomo probably thought that he was doing Nakago a favor by doing Tenkou’s bidding.  The plan backfired as Nakago highly disapproved it, but said he “understood” Tomo’s intentions and let him leave.  I guess Nakago had an idea on how loyal Tomo is, even if the latter does terrible things to show it.

Nakago tells an aghasted Tomo to scram.  I wonder how heartbroken Tomo was in this scene.  Also there's Chichiri next to Nakago and a kneeling Suboshi (in Amiboshi's body) embracing an unconscious Yui (who is the new Genbu Priestess) to the right.  This OVA is a complete mess.

Another bit is that after Tenkou killed Tomo by shooting a laser through his head (his 2nd time dying), it was revealed that Tomo was borrowing Kaen’s body, similar to how the deceased Suzaku warriors borrowed the Nyan Nyans’.  It was also interesting that the girl’s name was Kaen, which was also Soi’s real name.  Did Tomo secretly wished he was Soi?  Or did he just use that name as some sort of a disguise?  And there was a scene where he was still seen as Kaen, taking off her/his own clothes and offered to strengthen Tamahome’s chi via sexual magic like Soi to Nakago, in which Tamahome refused.  Thinking about it, Tomo probably wanted to bang Tamahome 😳.  Even though his #1 love is Nakago, he’s probably forming a twisted crush on Tamahome after he tickled him with his feathers!!!  Even in the manga, Tomo said that Tamahome made moans that aroused him!!  Yup, he’s definitely taking a liking to our leading man.  But then again, these are just my speculations and the OVA didn’t make sense at all in the first place.  So who cares haha.

Big reveal:  Tomo's spirit was borrowing a girl's body like how the Suzaku warriors borrowed the Nyan Nyan's.  He called himself Kaen in this body, which was also Soi's real name.  Hmmm...

The only thing good about the OVA is listening to Nobuo Tobita's voice, seeing Tomo (albeit character was handled poorly), and that's about it.
